What is The Joint Commission and How Important is it For Choosing an Xray School?

Common questions about Choosing an Xray School from people seeking out a new career in radiography.

What is The Joint Commission on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)

First, JRCERT is no longer using that name. They now prefer The Joint Commission or TJC.

In a nutshell, TJC reports to the US Department of Education and ensures that the radiography program meets a certain set of standards that will prepare you to

a) pass your boards and

b) be able to function as a technologist after you graduate.

I have always considered JRCERT the gold standard accrediting agency and when I looked at programs I didn’t consider any that didn’t have it.

I know there are others, and there are some very second rate schools around me that are accredited by them.

In my view that told me all I needed to know about these other accrediting organizations.

You NEED The Joint Commission if you want to work anywhere affiliated with major health care providers.

So unless you are going to work at a mom and pop chiropractors office, it’s a must.
